Sylvya J. Stevenson, MPA
Sylvya J. Stevenson is an IT Master Budget Analyst for Criterion Systems, a Federal Contractor. Prior to Criterion Systems, she was a Budget Analyst and the Position Review Committee Administrator in the Finance Department for the City of Kansas City, Missouri for three years. In her Budget and Finance capacity at Criterion, Sylvya manages and oversees a $137M operating budget for IT acquisitions and supports Federal fiscal operations for various agencies.
Prior to the City of Kansas City, she was the Assistant to the City Administrator for the City of Mission Hills, Kansas under the mentorship of Courtney Christensen, City Administrator. She is a Kansas City, Missouri native and graduated with distinction in 2007 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a Dual B.A in Political Science and Criminal Justice, and minor in Philosophy. Sylvya earned her Master of Public Administration at the University of Oklahoma in 2011 with a City Management and Public Policy concentration.
Sylvya founded and served as the past president of the National Congress of Black Women, Inc.- Kansas City Chapter, an organization dedicated to the political and social upliftment of Black women. She now serves as Interim Chairwoman. She has been a member of the national organization since 2005. NCBW, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3), not for profit, non-partisan, civic-leadership organization dedicated to the education, economic, political and cultural enrichment of Black women, their families and the community.
Her service commitment has also extended to various organizations including the International City and County Manager’s Association (ICMA), Blacks In Government (BIG), Blue Hills Church of the Nazarene, Big Brother Big Sister, and she is approaching her second year as a Centurion through the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. She served as a member of the Host Committee for the planning and execution of the 2016 ICMA Conference in Kansas City bringing nearly 3,400 visitors to the metro. She also serves as the Treasurer for Northern Nights Toastmaster Club.
